Sree Narayana Guru the great saint, spiritual leader, philosopher and social reformer led a reform movement in the caste ridden society of Kerala against the discriminatory attitude shown towards backward class communities and to ensure equal opportunities for all individuals.

Sri R Sankar the former Chief Minister of Kerala, and a renowned educationalist who was an ardent follower of Gurudev’s principles and teachings envisaged the idea of establishing a technical institution of national repute, giving special emphasis on the removal of disparities and to equalise educational opportunity. Guided by the principles of Sree Narayana Guru- “Become enlightened through education”, “Become strengthened through organisation”, “Become prosperous through hardwork”, the journey of Sree Narayana Polytechnic College began in the year 1957 with the admission of a total of 120 students in three branches – Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The institute picked up well and expanded in the year 2000 by offering one more branch in Electronics Engineering. The year 2006 was celebrated as the institution’s golden jubilee year. Affiliated to the State Board of Technical Education, approved by AICTE and managed by the Sree Narayana Trusts Kollam, this institution is oriented towards developing an egalitarian society through technical education by instilling the values of social enlightenment, economic stability, entrepreneurship and freedom .

Sree Narayana Polytechnic College is the premier government aided polytechnic college in Kollam in the South Indian state of Kerala which has completed 65 glorious years of relentless service to the nation. The campus is located at Kottiyam, 11 km away from the Kollam city and spreads to about 15 acres. It is a co-educational institution with competent faculty members and a student strength of 720. Regular and part time diploma courses are offered in this institution. The institute imparts innovative technical education and gives importance to discipline, outcome based education, placement and prepare competent technologists with environmental, ethical and social values.

The administration of this institution is entrusted in a governing body headed by Sri. Vellappally Natesan (Secretary S.N.Trusts) as Chairman and principal Sri. Sandeep.V as member Secretary.

In campus activities, special emphasis is given on collaborating, transforming and fabricating students’ expertise to reach the society using the creative powers of engineering technology.
